DESCRIPTION: Up to 8mm in length.  A neat little grass bug that is elongate, green (females) or yellowish-straw (males) coloured and with a longitudinal furrow between the eyes. The pronotum is seen to be densely pitted when viewed through a hand lens. The hind femora is crucial to the final identification as each one bears 2 spurs, one small and one large. BEHAVIOUR: This bug overwinters as an adult and emerges in April. From here the females turn green while males remain mostly straw-coloured. Both adults and larvae feed on the unripe grains of a number of grasses.  DISTRIBUTION: Fairly frequent throughout but care always needed with the ID. HABITAT: Meadows and rough, dry grassland. PERIOD: Can be seen throughout the year but best seen during the period from June to August.
